The Akashi Municipal Planetarium was built on the Japan Standard Time Meridian of 135-degrees east longitude in 1960. Before 1888, Japan used local time which varied from region to region across the country.
There are various observation rooms and galleries to explore at the longest running planetarium in Japan. There are 5 different planetarium showtimes per day with each show running for 50 minutes.
Entry to the planetarium in ¥700 for adults and free for children under 18. The Akashi Planetarium is a 3 minute walk from Hitomarumae Station on the Sanyo line or about 15min walk from JR Akashi Station. Car parking is available for ¥200.
