Profile
Anma Historical Museum and Samurai House 安間家史料館/武家屋敷 is a beautifully preserved samurai residence built around 1830 for the Anma family, lower-ranking retainers of the Sasayama Domain under the Aoyama clan. The house is an L-shaped, thatch-roof building with traditional rooms, furniture and family documents on display – offering visitors a tangible sense of everyday samurai life in the later years of the Edo period.
Inside you’ll find exhibits of daily-use items, armour and weapons, and a quiet little garden with a “suikinkutsu” (water-echo chamber) where you can pause and reflect. It’s a quieter and more intimate contrast to the grand halls of the castle, and it brings home the layered social structure of feudal Japan.
Entry to the Anma Historical Museum and Samurai House is just ¥200 or part of the special 4 place combination ticket for ¥800.
