Profile
Did you know Kobe has a big buddha statue? Nofukuji Temple in Kobe is home Hyogo Daibutsu. One of the biggest 3 buddhas in Japan. The Hyogo Daibutsu dates back to 1891 but during World War 2 it was melted to make weapons. Finally it was rebuilt in 1991, 100 years after the original daibutsu was created.
The temple and daibutsu are located in an odd place, a part-residential and part-factory area about a 10-minute walk from JR Hyogo Station or 20 minutes from JR Kobe Station.
It is free to enter the grounds.
