Profile
Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Archeology was a great discovery on our drive through Harima, a small town in the Kako district bordering Akashi city.
This museum opened in 2007, with the aim of carrying out a wide range of projects throughout Hyogo Prefecture, utilizing archaeological materials excavated from ruins in the prefecture.
This is especially great for families with kinder/early primary school aged children with many hands on experiences
From the museum website: “Explore the history of Hyogo through the four themes of People, Environment, Society, and Interaction. Archaeological materials excavated from ruins in the prefecture, and models and images based on the latest research findings, will stimulate your imagination and take you on a wondrous journey across time and space.
The Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Archaeology sits inside Onaka-iseki Park, a nice park with reconstructed Onaka ruins, ancient pit dwelling houses from the Yayoi period (300BC – 300AD). There is a small cafe and shop inside the museum.
Access by car or a 15 minute walk from JR Tsuchiyama Station. Entry is only ¥200 for Adults and free for children.
