Profile
Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown) is one of only three Chinatowns in Japan. Although Nankinmachi is relatively small compared to other Chinatowns around the world it has over 100 shops packed into just a couple of streets.
You can grab a quick bite from the outside street stalls or enter one of the numerous restaurants. With an impressive archway at its entrance you can often see tourists trying to get the perfect selfie. This vibrant area is the only Chinatown in Kansai and makes it a popular tourist attraction.
There are many festivals and celebrations held at throughout the year at Kobe Chinatown. The top three festivals are the Chinese New Year Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Kobe Chinatown is located a 5 minute walk south of JR Motomachi station, across from the Daimaru Department Store and runs parallel with Motomachi undercover arcade.
