Takeno Beach (Takenohama) on the Japan Seas side of Hyogo is probably the best beach in the prefecture and one of the best beaches in mainland Japan. This hidden gem has beautiful sand and clear water with a picturesque backdrop.
The drive to Takeno Beach from Kobe takes about 2.5 hours or you can get the Hamakaze Express train directly from Sannomiya Station in about the same time. The station is on the JR line so you can use the JR Pass if you have it.
The drive will take you through Kinosaki Onsen town.
