Profile
The Tamba Sasayama Historical Art Museum (丹波篠山市立歴史美術館) is housed in a stately wooden building that originally served as the Sasayama District Court (built in 1891) and used until 1981, this museum’s architecture is itself a point of interest. The building’s exterior and historic courtroom have been retained and the interior now houses regional cultural exhibitions – from samurai armour and rifles to local crafts such as Tamba-ware pottery.
For visitors interested in the broader cultural and craft heritage of the region, this museum provides a fine counterpoint to other feudal-era sites. It sits comfortably within the castle-town area and can be combined with the other sites in a half-day or full-day stroll.
Entry to the Tamba Sasayama Historical Art Museum can be combined with a ticket to 3 other sites in the region for just ¥800.
