Profile
Tatsuno Castle (龍野城) sits up on the hilltop overlooking the old district of Tatsuno City in west Hyogo. The original castle is over 500 years old, however only the wall and ruins of this castle remain. The main palace, Honmaru-Oten, that stands now was reconstructed in 1979 and is free to enter.
Although we didn’t get a chance to do this, you can hike along paths at the back of the castle and discover various ruins.
The old town and surrounding park of the castle make Tatsuno a great place to visit. The narrow streets, old samurai houses and temples give you an atmosphere of ancient Japan. The streets are lined with cherry blossoms which will enhance the atmosphere even more during the spring time.
