Profile
Usukuchi Tatsuno Soy Sauce Museum (うすくち龍野醤油資料館) is the world’s first soy sauce museum, located in the beautiful old district of Tatsuno city, west Hyogo Prefecture. This was the former factory of Higashimaru Shoyu company which has over 400 years of history. It was converted into a museum in 1979.
The entrance to the museum first looks quite small but a narrow passage expands into a variety or rooms hosting old soy sauce making tools, malting rooms and historical documents. There are a few English signs with explanations and a small gift shop.
Entrance to the Soy Sauce Museum is only ¥10 (This isn’t a typo, it is really only ten yen!).
Note: The area around the museum is a gorgeous old town and great to walk around.
