The Kobe Marathon is a globally recognized event that brings together runners from all over the world. This year, the marathon is set to take place on November 19, 2023. The marathon is a fantastic opportunity for overseas guests and foreign residents in Japan to participate in a major running event.
Entry Details for Non-Japanese Passport Holders
The Kobe Marathon is now accepting entries from non-Japanese passport holders. The entry window is open until August 21st, 2023. This means that foreign residents in Japan can sign up for the Kobe Marathon to guarantee a place. There are 2000 spots available for foreign runners on a first-come, first-served basis.
The cost of entry, including additional admin fees, is 21,500 yen. This is about 4000 yen higher than applying through the domestic lottery. However, the domestic lottery is currently closed and the results will be announced on June 30.
How to Apply
To apply, you will need to sign up for the Runnet Global site. If you’re not a Runnet member, you may need to create a new account. Once you’re in, you should soon see the Kobe Marathon 2023 and you can start the application process. You can apply directly through this link.
Important Guidelines
The Kobe Marathon 2023 will start at 9:00 AM for the first wave and 9:15 AM for the second wave. The event will conclude at 4:00 PM. The course starts in front of the Kobe City Hall, turns around at the west of Akashi Kaikyo Bridge (Tarumi-ku, Nishimaiko), and finishes near the Port Island (Citizen’s Plaza). The race adheres to the 2023 World Athletics (WA) rules and the Japan Athletics Federation competition rules.
Participants must be born before April 1, 2005, and be able to complete the marathon within 6 hours and 30 minutes. Transfer of participation rights and proxy running are strictly prohibited. Participants with disabilities who have difficulty running alone can have a guide runner. Guide runners must also register at the runner reception.
The entry fee of 21,500 yen includes the entry administrative fee and a charity donation. The charity donation of 200 yen will be used in the Kobe Marathon Friendship Bank. Please note that no refunds will be made after the payment procedure is completed.
