After a four-year hiatus due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the much-anticipated “Kobe Sea Bon Odori” or “Kobe Umi no Bon Odori” こうべ海の盆踊り is set to return this summer. This traditional event, a highlight of Kobe’s summer season, will be held on August 19, 2023, at Meriken Park, a popular night view spot in Kobe.
The “Kobe Sea Bon Odori” is one of the largest Bon Dance festivals in the Kansai region. It offers attendees the unique opportunity to dance to folk songs from all over Japan, as well as local Kobe folk songs, all set to the powerful sounds of live singing and music. The festival welcomes everyone, regardless of age, gender, or nationality, to join in the dance and create a unified circle of enjoyment.
The event will kick off at 3:00 PM with various food stalls, including a variety of kitchen cars, opening for business. The Bon Dance will then commence from 6:00 PM. The festival is set to continue until 8:30 PM, with a variety of folk songs and dances scheduled throughout the evening.
The festival is also planning to sell lottery tickets with a chance to win luxurious prizes. This year’s event promises to be a night of special memories, making it a perfect opportunity to create unforgettable summer memories.
Please note that the event will proceed even in light rain, but severe weather conditions may lead to changes in the event’s content or even cancellation. Any changes or cancellations due to weather will be announced on the event page at noon on the day of the event.
The “Kōbe Sea Bon Odori” is a free event, and no prior application is required to participate or enter the venue. However, please be aware that there is no parking available at the venue, so attendees coming by car are advised to use nearby paid parking lots.
