Japan is the world’s second largest producer of plastic PET bottles, domestically producing over 20 billion bottles a year. This staggering figure is what the team at MyMizu hope to reduce by guiding travelers and residents to 8000 – and counting – free water refill stations across Japan.
The MyMuzu app launched on 20 September 2019 to coincide with the Global Climate Strike. By using the app you can stay hydrated by finding free water refill points across Japan and help build a sustainable future by limiting the number of plastic bottles used.
The app not only highlights public drinking spots such as drinking fountains but also allows any business (cafes, restaurants, hotels, shops etc.) to register as a partner. As a MyMizu partner, you are offering people a chance to refill at your business. By doing this you can show the world you are environmentally conscious and it is great exposure to gain new customers.
Below are screenshots of the popular hiking path in Kobe that leads up past Nunobiki Falls to Nunobiki Dam. You can see 3 water refill points on the map. Zooming in closer you can see one of the points is at the Miharashi Observation Platform – a popular rest spot and viewing point that overlooks the city.
MyMizu App Highlights:
- Access 8000+ water refill points in Japan
- Discover new spots, trendy conscious cafes, restaurants, shops etc.
- Reduce consumption of single-use plastic bottles
- Upload your own refill spots, contributing to the movement
The MyMizu app is available for free on the iPhone App Store. Other mobile platform support is currently in development. Visit MyMizu.co and follow them on social media; Instagram, Facebook & Twitter
