Across the Kansai region of Japan there have been a bunch of new hotels open up that have caught my eye over the past year such as the gorgeous but pricey 5-star The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu. While the timing isn’t great, to say the least, these hotels have been in the works for years and unfortunately happened to be completed during a global pandemic.
Kobe hasn’t seen much action in terms of new hotels and what has opened up over the past few years has just seen a bunch of regular business style hotels. Nice, affordable, comfortable spaces such as the aptly named Comfort Hotel (opened in 2018) or the Sotetsu Fresa Inn (2019) but nothing that has stood out.
However, as we kick off 2021, Kobe’s newest hotel seems to be a step up. Introducing the new lifestyle hotel, The Royal Park Canvas Kobe Sannomiya, which opened on 21st January 2021. The hotels interior and exterior embrace images of the sea and mountains in which Kobe is nestled between.
The concept of the CANVAS lounge on the ground floor is to have an open space where both locals and visitors a like can mingle and enjoy good music, food and drinks inside or out on the terrace.
The hotel is 12 floors high and hosts 170 rooms. It has 3 main room types ranging in size from 18m² to 30m² with one suite room just over 40m². The smaller Comfort Double rooms are equipped with showers, whilst the Standard Twin, Deluxe Twin and of course the Suite rooms have a shower and bath.
One advantage of The Royal Park Canvas Kobe Sannomiya is there are no cramped “unit bathrooms” which are common in hotels across Japan. This is where the toilet, shower and basin are all in one. Another nice touch is the Canvas Pickup point where you can get the amenities you need for your stay.
The hotel’s convenient location in Sannomiya, central Kobe (next to Kobe Sauna & Spa) surrounded by restaurants and Kobe’s nightlife, within easy walking to Kobe’s upmarket shopping district and picturesque harbour make it an ideal spot to stay. Here’s hoping that tourism can resume in the near future and you get a chance to enjoy a night or two here.
I got an exclusive pre-open tour of the hotel and was pleasantly surprised with the design and overall concept. I haven’t stayed the night here yet but hope to update this post once the current state of emergency has ended and I have enjoyed a night or two at The Royal Park Canvas Kobe Sannomiya.
This is the 4th hotel in in The Royal Park Canvas chain following:
